Project 213A: A New Chapter in European Design

In the world of contemporary design, few brands have managed to blend traditional craftsmanship with a vision for sustainable, timeless creations as seamlessly as Project 213A. Founded in 2021 by Jurgita Dileviciute, Theresa Marx, and Clement Deboeuf, the brand’s origin story reflects not only their individual talents but also their shared experiences living in the same London address — 213A. This symbolic connection inspired the brand's name and serves as a testament to their combined creative journey.

Jurgita and Theresa’s academic journey at the University of the Arts London, where they earned degrees in Footwear and Fashion Design, set the foundation for their creative prowess. Their background in fashion is evident in Project 213A’s attention to detail and innovative approach to product design. Clement, with a finance degree from INES Paris, complements the team’s creative strengths by bringing a strategic and operational mindset to the table.

The three founders came together during a unique period of global uncertainty in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic, which brought much of the world to a standstill, provided them the opportunity to step back from their careers and explore a long-held dream — to create a design house that honors both traditional craftsmanship and sustainability. Thus, Project 213A was born, with the mission of creating meaningful design pieces that transcend fleeting trends.

One of Project 213A’s core values is its commitment to craftsmanship, which is deeply influenced by Portugal's rich artisanal heritage. The brand has taken great care to ensure that each product is meticulously crafted in its in-house ceramic and wood workshops, with the additional expertise of skilled artisans from Northern Portugal. This collaboration not only preserves time-honored techniques but also ensures that each piece is a work of art, embodying the founders’ philosophy of creating durable, long-lasting designs.

To honor this connection, Project 213A names most of its collections after Portuguese cities and regions, creating a deeper connection between the products and the cultural landscape that inspires them.

In a world often driven by fast fashion and disposable products, Project 213A is refreshingly committed to timeless design. Their pieces are carefully crafted to avoid trend patterns, focusing instead on durability and longevity. This ethos speaks to a growing audience of consumers who value sustainability and quality over mass production and quick turnover. The brand’s minimalist, functional designs are a nod to European modernism, but they also incorporate a warmth and depth that come from their handcrafted origins.

Sustainability is more than a buzzword for Project 213A — it is woven into every aspect of the brand’s operations. The founders have made a conscious effort to foster long-term partnerships with their manufacturers and local artisans, creating a close-knit production ecosystem that reduces transportation and minimizes their carbon footprint. The materials used in their collections are sourced locally whenever possible, further emphasizing their dedication to sustainability.

The founders are also committed to transparency. As a new brand, they are open about the challenges they face as they strive to create a more sustainable future. They aim to continuously improve the well-being of both their workers and the environment, ensuring the health and safety of their craftspeople in every step of the process.

Since its launch, Project 213A has quickly established itself as a design house to watch, combining European craftsmanship with a forward-thinking, sustainable philosophy. As the brand grows, it remains rooted in the values of transparency, tradition, and longevity, offering a refreshing alternative to the fast-paced world of contemporary design.

With a commitment to timelessness, quality, and the local community, Project 213A represents the future of design, one that honors the past while striving to create a better, more sustainable tomorrow.
